I think the concept of infinity poses a serious challenge for what is arguably our most commonly held worldview today.
Flannery O’Connor described this worldview in the following way:
For nearly two centuries the popular spirit of each successive generation has tended more and more to the view that the mysteries of life will eventually fall before the mind of man.
Notice the assumption that is required in order to believe such a view…
It’s the assumption that the mysteries of life are finite.
